When an iridescent meteorite plummets from outer space and into the property and foundations of a remote New England estate, a malignant force begins to insidiously permeate the lives of an unassuming family. The effects are gradual - time begins to dilate, nature assumes an otherworldly hue - and all things bright and beautiful eventually mutate and corrupt under its influence. So proceeds this eerie adaptation of the short story by H.P. Lovecraft, one of horror's most haunting, here presented by the enigmatic South African filmmaker Richard Stanley. Returning to Midnight Madness 29 years after his hypnotic killer-robot fandango Hardware first premiered in the section, Stanley summons his uniquely hallucinogenic sensibilities to envelope his endearing characters in surreal, incremental dread. At first, their domestic bliss is quietly fraught with an undercurrent of unnerving tension, before eventually boiling over into delirious, acid-fueled terror. The patriarch of this doomed brood is none other than Nicolas Cage, continuing his recent renaissance as a midnight-movie staple with an increasingly unhinged performance that reliably ricochets among every technique in the Stanislavski playbook. The rest of the ensemble, which includes Joely Richardson and Tommy Chong, play effective foils to Cage's delirium, but the real star of the show is the alien entity itself. This all-consuming, dispassionate menace manifests itself in a series of grotesque, body-horror, and psychedelic spectacles, worthy of its ineffable literary origins

Why would they RUIN the Charlies Angels name by going against the traditional NUMBER ONE DONT USE GUNS. Did whoever write this even watch Full Throttle.
Excellent reading and portrayal of this, my favorite Lovecraft yarn. Please, PLEASE could you read “It” by Theodore Sturgeon, a sadly underrated but nonetheless disturbing tale that would be a perfect fit for Horror Babble.
Look kind of a B-movie. And you know what they say. Not the B's ! Not the B's.

Wow. First 8 minutes of Joe really seemed Annoyed/Angry with the guys for having different opinions. Chill a bit 😂 maybe watching a Neil Breen film will make him feel better. Nicolas Cage used to have better days, he is just out of tune, or maybe it's the director. The plays were so rushed and the there are so much excessive hand moves and face gestures, like they don't know how to act under their skin, they just move themselves like clowns in order to show the feelings and emotions. I wish there was an Oscar for worst act, then this movie could get it. Has David Paulides heard this. Narrated by whom.

Lovecraft's short story, "The Colour Out Of Space", published in Amazing Stories in September 1927, making it a Public Domain work in Europe. Plot Summary from Wikipedia; "The Colour Out of Space" is a first-person narrative written from the perspective of an unnamed surveyor from Boston. In order to prepare for the construction of a new reservoir in Massachusetts, he surveys a rural area that is to be flooded near Lovecraft's fictional town of Arkham. He comes across a mysterious patch of land, an abandoned 5-acre (20, 000 m2) farmstead, which is completely devoid of all life. At the centre of the farmstead is an old well. The site fills him with an unnatural sense of dread, and he hurries past it. When he returns to Arkham, the surveyor asks around for information regarding the waste. He learns of an elderly hermit, Ammi Pierce, and asks him about the "blasted heath". The hermit tells him a horrific tale. In the early 1880s, the farm had been productive, run by a Nahum Gardner and his family. Then, one afternoon in June 1882, a large meteorite crashed into the farm, beside the well. It was metallic and contained a substance of an indescribable color that proved toxic. While scientists were never able to tell what (or who) the meteor contained, its effects were undeniable—the entire Gardner family was struck by insanity, illness, and worse, whilst the land around them was slowly drained of life. WHO ELSE WATCHED THE TRAILER JUST BECAUSE OF NICHOLAS CAGE 😁😁. A beautiful film. Engrossing and chilling. I have nothing but praise for the entire creative team involved. Return of slenderman- revenge of forgotten. Yes! Been waiting for your review of this. Glad you enjoyed it. Absolute triumph for horror. Heres to hoping the future adaptations of Lovecraft are just as impressive as this. Not your usual sci-fi / fantastic movie. Whether you like it or not, there is some solid work put behind this movie.
It's a visual and audio opera, especially the second half. And it's a continuous "madness" buildup from the start to the very end. Actors are very good, Cage is awesome, and Laura Dern is perfect. And not all movies are that good at picturing "living nightmares.
It might have been better with a little more explanations or hints by the end. But it's just my opinion. Thing is the movie appears to be very rational in its first part, and just takes the "all about paranormal" in its second part. But that might be director's choice and it kinda works in some way actually. Last point is it's a bit too long in my opinion. Would have been a perfect 90 minutes movie.
Anyway, it's a visual feast, a unique atmosphere, which is truly catchy, an interesting story and, most important point to mention, an original "crossed-genre" movie. Worth a watch.

Wonder when the New Mutants are gonna come out Ive heard the movie was coming out for at least 2 /3 years ! Beginning to think its gonna appears suddenly in streaming somewhere.
