• Resume=Brigadier Stéphane Ruiz is a young and light-heartened cop who moves to Paris to be closer of his little son after the divorce of his wife. Working in the impoverished suburb of Montfermeil, in the 93th district, where Victor Hugo wrote his famous 1862's novel "The Miserables", Ruiz joins the local Anti-Crime Brigade, being paired with veterans but unscrupulous colleagues Chris and Gwada, who are charged with the task to train Ruiz about the way Montfermeil's works and the people to meet. However, his first day in Montfermeil twists in bad way when the owner of a circus and his men meet where drug-lord Le Maire ("The Mayor") claiming for a stolen baby lion a few hours ago, blaming him by the theft. Avoiding a fight between Le Maire and circus' owner, the three cops patrol the hood looking for the animal, learning that a troubled kid named Issa is the thief, who stolen to have it as pet. But when Ruiz, Chris and Gwada locate Issa to recover the baby lion, Issa's friends attempt to liberate him from the cops. With the situation out of control, Gwada shots a rubber ball just when Issa tried to escape and hits him in the face, just in the moment that all they realize that a drone of a boy named Buzz recorded all the incident. Patrolling around, Chris and Gwada locate Buzz and start a prosecution to catch him after to learn that drone's card is gone. Hiding in a downstairs, Buzz escapes from Chris and runs to ask refuge to Salah, a Kebab's owner and leader of the each time more powerful Muslim brotherhood in the hood. While Issa's friends run to advise Le Maire about the drone and the record, Ruiz, Chris and Gwada moves where Le Pince ("The Clamp"), a bar's owner in addition to Le Maire's rival and Chris' partner in business, looking for help, at the same time that Ruiz goes to a pharmacy to heal Issa's hurts. But when a confident alerts about Buzz's location, Le Maire, the cops and Le Pince meet at the same time at Salah's local claiming by the card, not measuring the consequences of their acts

I didn't notice before start watching this, that it's musical! and what musical, they sing every single fucking word, at the first 5 minutes was ok but then, i get nervous, I didn't saw the end. Les miserables 2012 openload. I GET THE CHILLS EVERY TIME I HEAR HER SING THIS. I know she'll wait, i know she'll be true BROOOOOOOO WHY IS NO1 TALKING BOUT THAT. Il y a toujours un baceux verreux et ses collègues qui cautionnent sans broncher. Film réaliste. Ceux qui critiquent ne le vivent pas heureusement pour eux. I feel like something might have been lost in translation when it came to this movie and me. I'm not French, and admittedly am not very knowledgeable about any real life cases this movie is surely based on, or at least inspired by. I went into this looking for a compelling cop/crime movie, and appreciated it for some of its visuals, performances, and its overall message. Because yes, the topics it deals with- crime, inequality, police brutality, systemic violence and cycles of oppression etc.- are all very important. The only problem is that I don't think the film is saying anything new or particularly eye opening. The Wire has dealt with this stuff amazingly well and in much greater detail, throughout many of its episodes. Most importantly, The Wire also managed to do all this while telling fascinating stories and giving us dozens of well developed, flawed, yet interesting and frequently sympathetic characters.
More than anything else, I think this is the biggest problem with Les misérables. The writing was weak to me. Like I said, it's well shot, the acting is all pretty good, the themes are relevant, and its message an important and more than agreeable one. But I just felt it did so little to involve me as a viewer. If you compare this to something like City Of God, which has a fantastic, relentless sense of pacing and a high number of hugely emotional scenes, this movie just falls apart. The main incident that gets the plot going takes too long to happen, and then doesn't really cause the plot to build or progress. The story then comes in fits and bursts. Some scenes feel like they go on forever. The characters are incredibly one-dimensional, and none really change or grow throughout the film. The dialogue is fairly basic, and there's little in the way of humour, sadness, or tension. There feels like there's about three different endings before a more exciting climax suddenly appears. only for it to be cut short by a hugely pretentious and eye-rollingly sudden ending. Like, I get what they were saying by ending it the way they did. But it felt so cheap and unearned, especially because it had already felt like the movie had ended multiple times before that. It's barely over 100 minutes in total, but it felt more like two and a half hours.
Oh also, more of a nitpick- and certainly not a problem for those who speak French- but the subtitles weren't very well done in my opinion. They weren't bold enough, and so often when the white lettering appeared on a white or mostly white background, I couldn't read them too well. Giving them a black outline, making them bolder, or putting them on the black border at the bottom of the screen (which happens given this film is shot in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio) could have solved this.
I think there was potential here for a more compelling movie, and if you're more after a film with a powerful message that reflects and touches upon current issues, this could be worth a watch. It'll likely start conversations, and open eyes, and maybe that's enough. I just thought it largely failed as a story; as an actual film. It highlights the importance of pacing and well-developed characters more than anything else, because everything else was done quite well. It fell apart with the writing for me, but I know I'm in an extreme minority here, so if this looks interesting to you, please don't let the ignorant, random non-French guy on the Internet put you off this too badly. I just had some thoughts I had to get out I suppose, and overall, it's far from terrible, even with what I perceived to be a fairly weak screenplay.

January 10, 2020 8:18AM PT Richard Gere plays a psychologist with grandiose delusions in a dull good-doctor drama that bends facts in its attempt to be another 'Awakenings. ' Sixty years ago, a psychologist named Milton Rokeach hatched an unconventional experiment, in which he gathered together at Ypsilanti State Hospital three mental patients who’d been diagnosed with grandiose delusions — each was thoroughly convinced that he and only he was Jesus Christ — to test whether confronting them with “the ultimate contradiction” of their claims might impact their beliefs. “While I had failed to cure the three Christs of their delusions, they had succeeded in curing me of mine — of my God-like delusion that I could change them by omnipotently and omnisciently arranging and rearranging their daily lives, ” Rokeach wrote decades later in the 1981 reprint of his book, “The Three Christs of Ypsilanti. ” There’s a wonderful irony to that line upon which a fascinating film might be based, perhaps even a rowdy weekly sitcom. Instead, director Jon Avnet (whose terrific adaptation of “Fried Green Tomatoes” gives hope that perhaps he has another great film in him) and co-writer Eric Nazarian (whose credits do not inspire great optimism) have served up a stiff, unconvincing and recklessly wrong-headed reinterpretation of events. Operating in the vein of movies like “Awakenings, ” the pair have gone back to Rokeach’s book-length report, mining it for colorful details, while positioning the controversial experiment as some kind of noble breakthrough for talk-based treatment over more barbaric methods, such as electroshock therapy. Mind you, to the layperson, anything is better than clamping paddles to someone’s forehead and cranking up the voltage. What “Three Christs” ignores are not only the plentiful ethical criticisms of Rokeach’s work (as one of the patients put it in the book, “When psychology is used to agitate, it’s not sound psychology any more. You’re not helping the person. You’re agitating. ”) but also its author’s own admission that his study was a failure. Going in, Rokeach had assumed that he might be able to fix these patients, whereas in retrospect, he realized that he had been attempting to play God. Turns out there weren’t only three Christs in Ypsilanti but four, Rokeach concluded with a certain rhetorical flair. In any case, Richard Gere would not be my first choice to play Rokeach. Don’t get me wrong: Gere’s a fine actor, although he’s far better at projecting cow-eyed sympathy — his version of the saintly, all-patient therapist that earned Robin Williams an Oscar for “Good Will Hunting” — than a doctor wrestling with his own delusions of grandeur. Gere’s simply too nice, and as an audience, we instantly forgive the character his foibles, while Avnet redirects his criticism at the hospital director, shock-happy Dr. Orbus (Kevin Pollak). Obviously, the real acting opportunity here falls to the three patients, as Avnet allows Bradley Whitford, Peter Dinklage and Walton Goggins to parade about in varying shades of paranoid schizophrenia. Whitford is a twitchy motormouth, taker of long showers, and chronic masturbator, whereas Dinklage (with whom he frequently scuffles) projects a more urbane personality, with his taste for opera records and references to his native England. Rokeach, who has been renamed “Dr. Stone” in the film, finds a third Christ — “but not from Nazareth, ” this one insists — at another hospital. This last patient looks like Jack Nicholson, not so much the spastic “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” version as the wild-eyed, greasy-haired lunatic who runs around swinging an ax at the end of “The Shining. ” A good fit for Goggins, who offers up one of the more restrained performances of his career. Frankly, all three are quite good, if very much on different pages. Rokeach’s idea was to force these three false prophets to cohabitate for two years and see what happened. Avnet’s idea is to create a tug-of-war between Stone and the hospital staff, who disapprove of his methods at first, but later want to take credit for the attention after he publishes his first article. Stone convinces them to stop shocking his patients (for a time), but rest assured, there will come a scene in which your favorite Christ becomes agitated, and the orderlies seize the opportunity to strap him down and plug him into the electroshock machine. Cut to a distressing close-up as something that looks like ectoplasm burbles forth from his mouth. It will not surprise you — read: spoiler alert — that one of the three Christs commits suicide. None of Rokeach’s patients did so in real life, but in the lazy dramatists handbook, that trope is by far the most efficient way for movies about prisons, psychiatric hospitals and uptight boarding schools to announce that the administrators of such institutions are in the wrong (see yet another self-righteous Robin Williams movie Avnet no doubt had in mind, “Dead Poets Society”). It also serves to explain why Stone, in the opening scene, addresses a disciplinary committee with the words “I am guilty of underestimating the enigma that is the mind. ” By now it is probably amply clear that “Three Christs” is not a faith-based movie — at least, not in the conventional sense. The movie has almost nothing to do with religious belief, beyond that its titular trio all believe themselves to be the Messiah (eventually, one does waver slightly in his identity, requesting to be called “Dr. Righteous Idealed Dung”). To an extent, faith still factors into the experience: As audiences, we trust filmmakers to do a reasonably accurate job of representing stories based in truth, and we get angry when they take the kind of liberties Avnet and company allow themselves here. As if it weren’t bad enough that “Three Christs” were boring, it’s impossible to believe, and for that, there is no cure. His findings, about which even he eventually raised ethical qualms, weren’t limited to professional journals. The movie “Three Christs” is based on his book “The Three Christs of Ypsilanti, ” published in 1964 and still in print. The story has been dramatized elsewhere, including onstage. If the room where Rokeach and his three Christs met became a place for exploring the mysteries of the mind, the meeting space in the movie looks more like an acting class, in which three hams compete for a curtain call, each with his own performance style. Peter Dinklage’s mental patient is a lordly, theatrical Christ, who speaks fondly of opera and England. Bradley Whitford, whose character identifies as Christ, but takes care to note he is not of Nazareth, is a disheveled, muttering widower whose schizophrenia seems hopelessly intermingled with the guilt he feels for his wife’s death. Even less kempt, Walton Goggins gets to play an angry, avenging figure, given to oratory and mind games. Rokeach, who died in 1988, ultimately said that the three Christs cured him of his “God-like delusion” that he could change them. The closing title cards of “Three Christs” spin that quote to make it sound a tad more uplifting, a contextual shift that perhaps describes the method of the movie. It has to solve the problem of how to compress difficult, messy material into a polished, crowd-pleasing drama. Institutional resistance to Alan’s methods is mostly concentrated in the form of a jealous hospital superintendent (Kevin Pollak, giving it his full weasel) who undermines and meddles in Alan’s work. There is a sense that disparate events have smushed together: In a victory for multitasking, Alan decides to dose Becky with LSD while they are observing their patients — and just in time for Alan’s wife (Julianna Margulies) to stop by and suspect an affair. Yet the director, Jon Avnet, who wrote the script with Eric Nazarian, succeeds in keeping the movie watchable in spite of its contrivances. Whether it is the star power of the cast or the seductiveness of the period recreation, “Three Christs” has an appealing professionalism — an odd fit for a film about challenging a profession. I mean. The solution was quite simple. Bring a glass of water and tell them to turn it into wine. Since, he probably couldn't be cleared to let them walk on water.
"Three Christs" was a last minute choice of mine at the TIFF. As a big Dinklage's fan, and considering that it was a world premiere, it was easy enough to go check it out. I'm glad I did. This movie is one about the brain and its struggles, but it does so with a big heart. It's funny and touching with a good balance, and the acting is top notch (I'm actually a bigger Dinklage's fan after the movie. The underlying themes about psychiatry as science and its potential negative effect on personality, the nature of identity, the complex interaction of desire and fear are inhabiting the film and are as relevant today as they were at the time. In summary, a great entertaining movie with a deeper layer. and a stellar Dinklage.

F. Várkonyi Zsuzsa Férfiidők lányregénye című kötete alapján készül Tóth Barnabás második egész estés játékfilmje, az Akik maradtak. A történet egy tizenhat éves lány és egy negyven feletti férfi lelki egymásra találásának szépséget és nehézségeit meséli el, a háttérben a második világháborút követő évek vörösterrorba forduló időszakával. A budapesti helyszínek mellett a ráckeresztúri Brauch-kastélyban zajló forgatás egy napjára mi is ellátogattunk. (További fotók az Így készül az Akik maradtak című galériánkban, a Kapcsolódó anyagok között. ) Földvár felé, de nem félúton, a fővárostól úgy harminc kilométerre tesszük ki utoljára az indexet, mielőtt rákanyarodnánk az egykor Rácszentmiklósként ismert puszta felé vezető útra. A cél a közel kétszáz évvel ezelőtt épült Brauch-kastély, az Akik maradtak legfontosabb forgatási helyszíne. A kapu után még egy kis offroad, mielőtt beérnénk a parkolónak kijelölt területre, ahonnan az épületek felé sétálva elkezdjük irigyelni a stáb tagjait, hogy ha átmenetileg is, de ilyen környezetben dolgozhatnak. A hatalmas fákkal teli parknak ugyan semmilyen direkt jelentősége nincs a film szempontjából (csak belsők készülnek a helyszínen), de az biztos, hogy megkönnyíti a történetben való elmélyülést. Tóth Barnabás / fotó: Pozsonyi Janka Utóbbival kapcsolatban megtudjuk, hogy a bevezetőben említett két főszereplő találkozása a véletlennek köszönhető: a holokauszt után árván maradt lánynak orvosi vizsgálatra van szüksége, amit a másik főhős végez el rajta. Rögtön megéreznek egymásban valamit, ami először a lányban ölt testet: egy lehetséges pótapát fedez fel az orvosban, aki szép lassan el is fogadja, hogy van egy lánya. A film megmutatja, hogy hogyan fejlődik, egyáltalán hogyan tud létezni egy ilyen kapcsolat a holokauszt drámája utáni, de a küszöbön álló kommunista diktatúra előtti, viharos és bizonytalansággal teli időkben. A történet fentiek szerinti összefoglalása már a filmet rendező és a forgatókönyvet is jegyző Tóth Barnabásnak köszönhető, akivel az ebédszünet második felében ülünk le egy rövid beszélgetésre. A választott korszakkal kapcsolatban elmondja, hogy hű maradt a regény cselekményének idejéhez, de hangsúlyozza, hogy a történelem ez esetben nem több háttérnél, amely ablakokon beszűrődő, vagy szomszédoktól kapott hírek szintjén van jelen. „Ez a beteg korszak abból a szempontból lehet érdekes, hogy az emberek hogyan tekintenek egy ilyen kapcsolatra, de ezzel csak érintőlegesen foglalkozunk. Ami igazán érdekel, az az apa és a nevelt lány kapcsolata: milyen áthallásai vannak, merre fejlődik, és hogyan alakul akkor, amikor a lány egyre nagyobb lesz. ” Szőke Abigél / fotó: Pozsonyi Janka A központi párost Szőke Abigél és Hajduk Károly kelti életre. Miért éppen ők? – kérdezzük a rendezőt. A válasz szerint mindketten ott voltak a kezdeti jelöltek között, de csak egy több fordulós castingot követően dőlt el, hogy az övék lesz a szerep. Egyénileg is meggyőzőek voltak, de ennél sokkal fontosabb, hogy együtt is nagyon erősek a kamera előtt. „Itt tényleg minden rajtuk múlik, a jelenetek hetven százalékában ők vannak a képen” – teszi hozzá Tóth Barnabás. E mellett persze az epizódszerepekben látható karaktereknek is élesnek kell lenniük: „Lesznek olyan arcok, akiket még nem, vagy csak nagyon régen láthattunk filmen, és nem számítunk rájuk. Nem szeretném ellőni az összes meglepetést, de Jordán Adéltól Balla Eszteren át Lukáts Andorig nagyszerű színészekről van szó, akár pár mondatos szerepben is. A válogatás folyamatában nagyon sokat köszönhetek Ascher Irma casting directornak, aki az egészet irányította. ” A stáb nagy része még ebédel, mialatt körbejárjuk az elvarázsolt kastélynak is beillő kúriát – kivéve azokat a részeket, ahol lépni sem lehet az összetolt bútoroktól. Képek, szőnyegek, kisebb-nagyobb dísztárgyak, amelyekből még úgy is sok a félretett, hogy három lakásbelső áll készen a hátralévő jelenetek felvételéhez. Mennyi van még hátra, hol tart a forgatás? – kérdezzük. „Ez a tizennegyedik nap a tizenkilencből, ami a film 80 perces játékidejéhez képest nagyon rövid. Ráadásul egyetlen kameránk van, úgyhogy ügyesen kell bánni az idővel. ” – válaszolja a rendező. Nézz több fotót a forgatásról! Mécs Mónika, a film producere is válaszolt kérdéseinkre Amikor tavaly beszélgettünk, épp a Van egy határ t vágtátok Tóth Barnával, és elmondtad, hogy szívesen dolgoznál vele nagyjátékfilmen is. Most a forgatáson vagyunk, készül Inforg-M&M gyártásban az Akik maradtak. Hogy sikerült ilyen gyorsan tető alá hozni? Valójában már 2016-ban beadtuk a tervet a Mecenatúrához, és kaptunk is támogatást forgatókönyv-fejlesztésre. Barna elkezdte írni a könyvet, eredetileg Pannónia utca címmel, ebből lett később az Akik maradtak. Tavaly már mehetett is a Fehér György pályázatra, ahol 120 millió forint támogatást kapott a projekt. Örülök, hogy meg tudjuk csinálni, mert egy nagyon szép, F. Várkonyi Zsuzsa adaptációról van szó, aminek a forgatókönyvét végül Muhi Klárával ketten írták Barnáék. Az is örömteli, hogy a film a megjelenésében is felnő a tartalom szépségéhez. Gyönyörűek Marosi Gábor képei, de Rajk László díszleteit, vagy Lengyel Rita jelmezeit is kiemelhetjük. Ezért is szeretnénk nagyon, hogy a szintén szép kivitelezésű Félvilág hoz hasonlóan az Akik maradtak is moziba kerülhessen. Nagyvásznon nézve más az élmény. Tóth Barna korábban nem csak írója, rendezője, vagy főszereplője, hanem sokszor a producere is volt saját filmjeinek, de más rendezők munkáin is dolgozott az utóbbi minőségében. Amellett tehát, hogy tanulta a produceri szakmát, még gyakorlata is van benne. Ez segít a közös munkában? Nagyon sokat, különösen ennél a filmnél. Egy egész estés, kosztümös filmről beszélünk ugyanis, 19 napos forgatási idővel, ami nem túl sok, másrészt egy kosztümös film készítésekor nincs az a pénz, amit ne lehetne elkölteni. Csakhogy nincs több száz milliós keret. A tévéfilmek jóval kevesebből gazdálkodhatnak, mint egy mozifilm, így nekünk is erősen meg kellett húzni a nadrágszíjat. Az, hogy Barna produceri szemszögből is képes tekinteni a filmre, akkor válik igazán fontossá, ha valamire kénytelen vagyok azt mondani, hogy nem fér bele anyagilag. Nagyon jó, hogy rögtön megérti, amit mondok, de még jobb, hogy pillanatok alatt átformálja, vagy akár át is írja az adott jelenetet. Ez egyébként nem csak rá, de a stáb egészére igaz: mindenki megtesz mindent azért, hogy kevésből hozza ki a maximumot, és ez ne menjen a látvány rovására. Rendszeresen visszanézem a felvett anyagokat, de eddig még sehol sem vettem észre rajtuk, hogy spórolnunk kellett. Néhány évvel ezelőtt például Mágnás Elza lakhatta be az épület egy részét Szász Attila nagyvászonra került tévéfilmjében, a Félvilág ban. Tóth Barnabás valószínűleg kiegyezne vele, ha a szintén tévéfilmnek készülő Akik maradtak a moziforgalmazást, vagy akár a fesztiválszerepléseket tekintve is hasonló utat járna be, mint a Félvilág. Elmondása szerint novemberben kell leadniuk a kész munkát a fő támogató MTVA-nak, de bízik benne, hogy moziba is kerülhet majd a film. Közben véget ér az ebédszünet, egyre nagyobb körülöttünk a jövés-menés. Szőke Abigél és Hajduk Károly is eltűnik a sminkszoba függönye mögött, az övék lesz a következő jelenet, amit jó tíz perc múlva már egy monitoron nézünk a konyhai helyszín melletti kis szobában. Úgy tűnik, senkit sem kell külön emlékeztetni az idő szorosságára, annyira olajozottan megy minden. Mindenki az ideális íven veszi a kanyarokat, láthatóan feszített a tempó, de nem megy át kapkodásba. Hungary's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2019 Academy Awards, Barnabás Tóth's ( Camembert Rose" Those Who Remained (Akik maradtak) asks us to rethink our idea of what liberation meant to those just released from the camps. Based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Zsuzsa F. Varkonyi and set in Budapest between 1948 and 1953, the suffering of the Holocaust years are deeply etched on the face of Doctor Aládar (Aldo) Körner (Károly Hajduk, One Day. a slender, gaunt man of about forty who is going through the motions of his Ob-Gyn practice at a Budapest hospital, but the look in his eyes cannot hide the trauma of his wife's death and that of his two young boys.
Coming from the Israelite Community Orphanage, Klára (Abigél Szõke, X - The eXploited. a mature-looking 16-year-old girl, sees Dr. Körner, for a gynecological exam to find out why her puberty has come so late. At first, angry, fearful, and wound into a tight knot, when she reaches out and suddenly embraces the doctor, it is clear that she is seeking more than an exam but a respite from her desperate loneliness. Outspoken in her disdain for her classmates at school and her great-aunt Olgi (Mari Nagy, Budapest Noir" with whom she lives, Klára only begins to reveal her repressed humanity when Aldo responds to her like a fellow human being in pain, not a wounded animal.
Bringing the film to life with her tremendously affecting performance, Szõke refuses to return to Olgi even though she loves her and wants her to be happy. Instead, she moves in with Aldo who acts as a foster father, sharing custody with her aunt. He makes the rules, however, and is strict about physical contact, especially when she crawls into bed with him at night. Gradually, both open up though to each other. They talk about God, her parents, the sister she feels guilty about not being able to save from death, and, in a tender scene, he shares with her his photo album from before the war.
Though Aldo strictly adheres to the rules of propriety, their developing relationship raises some eyebrows, and the interest of Soviet operatives. Amidst talk of a Soviet crackdown on personal freedoms, Aldo and Klára do their best to be discreet, but it does not prevent others from gossiping. In one instance, after being seen in a park laying her head on Aldo's lap, Klára is defiant when interrogated by a Communist official. Similarly, Pista (Andor Lukáts, The Whiskey Bandit. Aldo's colleague at work, says that people have disappeared during the night and tells him that he has joined the Communist Party and has been asked to inform on him.
Those Who Remained is an intimate look at two damaged souls who have been bruised and shaken by life but are now ready to begin the reconstruction of their life, a process which will, in Percy Bysshe Shelley's phrase "lift the veil from the hidden beauty of the world." Knowing that any expression of the love they feel for each other will push the boundaries of what is considered acceptable, both realize that their protestations of innocence will not be enough to keep them safe, and that they must now reach out to others, bringing solace and joy in a world in dire need of both.

Azokról a magyar zsidókról mesél, akik a budapesti gettóból nem a haláltáborokba kerültek, hanem itthon maradtak, de mindenki elveszített valaki nagyon közeli személyt, legtöbben az egész családjukat. Ezt az űrt lehetetlen orvosolni, csak nagyon nagy tapintattal, türelemmel, megértéssel és szeretettel lehet körbevenni, hogy ne fájjon annyira és lehessen tovább élni. Mellette jön az újabb terror, az újabb veszélyhelyzet, amely nem épp a gyógyulást segíti. Richie, does have a way of getting performances of note from his cast member's. The aforementioned title certainly delivers again for the director in this respect. While Mcconnaughy delivers with the unmistakable charisma we have come to expect from him, it was the particularly interesting and unfamiliar role of Hugh Grant that caught the eye and highlighted a type of variety not often seen in the work of Grant. Another notable mention must go to Colin Farrell who presents as a sharp and quick witted character prone to a criminal venture. For all the criticism of Farrell and his perceived lack of range, this character and script play to his strengths and showcase his underrated skills as a comic actor. To summarise, this film is by no means a Richie masterpiece and does have a sense of predictability. What it lacks in substance and grit, it makes up for in a wit and it's free flowing pace. Best enjoyed with limited expectations and a less than serious approach.

The cast couldn't have been more perfect, Matthew McConaughey is brilliant as the lead, and the other actors, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell and Michelle Rockery (yes from Downton Abbey) are all superb and entertaining in their roles. I have had a lot of fun with this film and have seen it twice already. Definitely a recommendation if this is your sort of picture.
